The birds and the bees

Spring is most definitely in the air here in Heslington!

Yesterday (28 Feb.)  we had our first Queen bumblebees of the year in the garden. (Buff-tailed, in case you were wondering!)

Last week there were honeybees about. And the first moths of the year (including a Pale Brindled Beauty).

As I type the garden is teeming with 7-spot ladybirds.

And this morning … Well, take a listen to this bird song:

  1. Hi Caroline – Funnily enough, I had just sent my sightings off to the UK Ladybird Survey when your comment arrived! There are *so* many 7-spots here in York this year. Have you got a similar number where you are?
