I sang my way out of the EU late last night. In English and in German. With the Remain Voice Choir of York. (Henceforth to be known as the Reunion Chorus.)
York for Europe and Selby for Europe put on an ‘EU 27 Citizens Friendship Supper’ to mark our exiting from the EU yesterday:
‘This evening is to reaffirm our view of a world where different nationalities find ways to live, love and work together as easily as possible’
It was a heart-warming and heart-wrenching occasion, made up of food, flowers and fellowship, music, (very personal) stories and poems. Here’s one of the poems I performed:
There were speeches too, including from the York Central MP Rachael Maskell. Here’s a snippet:
So, that’s it. We’re out of the EU. But forever European.
Thank you to everyone who came yesterday and shared their talents and energies and stories and created such a memorable evening of solidarity and hope.
